Born in South Dakota in 1887, Aitchison began pitching professional baseball in Kansas at age 16.  His first team was the Class C Leavenworth Orioles of the Missouri Valley League in 1904.

After stops in Tulsa and Vinita (OK), Aitchison came back to Kansas in 1907 to pitch for the Hutchinson Salt Packers of the Western Association.  He won 17 games in 1907 and joined the Wichita Jobbers.  In 1909, he was 18-11 with and in 1910 he was 20-11.

In 1911, he was in the major leagues with the Brooklyn Robins.  In 1914 he won 12 and lost 7 with an earned-run average of 2.66 and three shutouts.  His last season in Brooklyn was 1915 through he continued to pitch in the minor leagues until 1923.

After he retired from baseball, he served 18 years for the Columbus police department and as deputy sheriff. He died in Columbus in 1958 at the age of 70.
