Lee Anthony, who was born in 1919 in LeRoy, pitched in the minor leagues for 17 seasons, winning 138 games.
Anthony’s professional career began in 1937 with the Class D Ozark Cardinals. After missing the 1942-45 seasons with military service, he finally reached the AAA level in 1948 with the Los Angeles Angels. Anthony was 16-11 with a 3.93 earned run average that season.
Two years later, Anthony pitched for the Hollywood Stars. He would play until 1957 – for 16 teams in his 17 seasons. In his final season, he was a player-manager for the Seminole (OK) Oilers in the Sooner State League.
In 1965 Anthony managed the Wytheville (VA) Senators in the Applachian League. He scouted for the scouted for the Senators, Kansas City Athletics and Texas Rangers.
Anthony died in 2010 in Burlington and is buried in LeRoy.
