Les Davis
Hall of Fame Class of 2010
One of the most successful coaches in Kansas high school history, Les Davis made his mark in not one, not two — but three different sports. Davis won a combined 1,522 games in a coaching career that spanned half a century.
After 38 years at Sedan High School, Davis left as the third-winningest football coach in Kansas history. Along with 316 wins in football, Davis won 694 in basketball and 512 in baseball. His Blue Devils won a state baseball championship in 1973.
Davis retired from full-time coaching in 2005 and later served as an assistant football coach under his son Criss at Caney Valley High School.
Originally from Wichita, Davis played on several teams that played in the National Baseball Congress state and national tournaments. Notably, he helped the John Weitzel
Cowboys win the state tournament in 1958.
After graduating from North High School, Davis was a standout at Friends University. He is a member of the Friends Athletic Hall of Fame, the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame and the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Hall of Fame.
Davis died in 2011 at the age of 78.
