Carl Hall
Hall of Fame Class of 2021
A gifted athlete and student, Carl Hall led Campus High School in Haysville to Ark Valley League championships in football, basketball and baseball as a senior. He came to Wichita State in 1990 and immediately stepped into a starting outfield role, hitting .336.
After a medical redshirt in 1991, Hall was back for his sophomore season and hit .306 with 23 stolen bases. That summer, he was named one of the top prospects in the Alaska League and was named to the National Baseball Congress’s all-tournament team.
As a junior leading off the Shockers’ order, Hall hit .316 with 18 doubles and scored 87 runs in 74 games. In the NCAA regional, Hall made a dramatic defensive play, throwing out Georgia Tech’s Jay Payton at the plate to end the top of the ninth and keep the game tied 4-4. The Shockers went on to win the game in ten innings and would eventually advance to the College World Series.
As a senior, Hall was the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, hitting .354 with 18 doubles and 42 stolen bases. He was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 11th round of the 1994 MLB draft.
In each of his four seasons at WSU, Hall received the Shockers’ “Charlie Hustle Award.” He was three-time academic all-conference and was named to Wichita State’s 25-year anniversary team and the Missouri Valley Conference’s All-Centennial team.
Hall died in 2024 at the age of 53.
