Brian Holman

Brian Holman
Hall of Fame Class of 2007

Drafted out of Wichita North High School after All-American honors his senior year, Brian Holman decided to forego a baseball scholarship at the University of Nebraska to sign with Montreal.  He was the sixteenth player chosen in the 1983 major league draft.

In the Expos’ system, Holman was named to Double-A and Triple-A all-star teams.  In 1987, he was named the Southern League pitcher of the year by The Sporting News.

Holman made his major league debut in 1988 against Pittsburgh.  Five days later, he beat the Atlanta Braves and Tom Glavine for his first major league win.

During the 1989 season, Holman was traded to Seattle, along with Randy Johnson, and was the Mariners’ opening night starter in 1990.  In April of 1990, he came within one out of pitching a perfect game against Oakland.

Known as a fierce competitor, Holman won 32 games in two and a half seasons in Seattle.  His playing career was cut short by an arm injury.

Holman coached at Andale High School before leaving the Wichita area.  His brother Brad also pitched for the Seattle Mariners in 1993.
