After five seasons in professional baseball, Robert Mainzer landed in Wichita in 1950 to play shortstop for the Class A Wichita Indians. Despite a good season, Mainzer quit professional baseball and played for the Boeing Bombers in 1951.
He returned to professional baseball in 1952, but again left after the 1953 season. He returned to Wichita and played semi-pro baseball for another decade. In 1962, he was the Bombers Most Valuable Player.
Mainzer died in 2012 at the age of 86.
