Dick Murphy was born in Oklahoma City but moved to Wichita at age 15 and played baseball at East High.
He played professionally in the Washington organization followed by semi-pro ball for the Cessna Bobcats and Boeing Bombers.
Murphy worked for Boeing, taught school, sold insurance and owned Dairy Queen and liquor stores. He died in 2008 at the age of 88.
