Jerry Squires graduated from Wichita’s Cathedral High School and played semi-pro ball in the Victory League as an 11th grader.
He played in the Cubs’ system at Pampa, Texas, in 1950 and the next year was called up by the Naval Reserve.
Back home, he played semi-pro until 1953 with Blackwell, Okla., Arkansas City and for Nick Stevens’ team in the Victory League.
He owned Squires Phillips 66 in Wichita and served on the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame board of advisors until his death in 2017 at the age of 87.
