Hank Stelljes

Born in Girard, Stelljes played first base and outfield in the Class D KOM League at Independence in the late 1940s. He came to Wichita in 1951 and played semi-pro ball for teams in Newton and Derby. 

Stelljes became involved in umpiring through the NBC and officiated NBC, college and high school games for almost 30 years. 

Stelljes died in 1992.  His son Steve was a Big 8 / Big 12 and NFL official.
