Hall of Fame Class of 1978

Born in 1902, Bert Wells was with the St. Louis Browns when he came to Wichita to scout the 1939 Kansas State NBC Tournament.

In 1940, Wells began working for the Brooklyn Dodgers and would spend the next 39 years in the Dodger organization.  He was Midwest Scouting Director for 20 years and signed Frank Howard and Don Sutton.

During his entire tenure with the Dodgers, Wells scouted the NBC World Series and signed more NBC players than any other scout.

Wells lived in Larned and is the grandfather of Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame member John Keenen.

Wells died in 1979.
