Hall of Fame Class of 2022

From 1976 to 1978, Southeast High School was 57-2 and won two state championships.  During this period of greatness, however, the 1978 team was elite.

Coached by Jim Deckinger, the 1978 Golden Buffaloes outscored their opponents 155-25 en route to a 23-0 season with Greater Wichita Athletic League and state titles.  They were the only undefeated team in 5-4-3A history and were named mythic national champions by Collegiate Baseball magazine.  Deckinger calls the team “a lifetime experience.”

The website StadiumTalk.com rates the 1978 Southeast team as the 20th greatest high school baseball team of all time.

All seven seniors received college scholarships. They included Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame member Jim Thomas (Wichita State) and Kevin Clinton (University of Kansas), who is the son of the late Lou Clinton, also a member of the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame.
