Jason Adams was a hitting machine at the high school and collegiate levels. At Wichita Northwest, he hit .548 over his three seasons and struck out only seven times. As a senior, he led the Grizzlies to a state runner-up finish in class 6A.
Adams immediately saw playing time for Wichita State. As a freshman, he filled in at third base and shortstop. He became the Shockers starting shortstop as a sophomore in 1993 and hit .318 on a team that finished runner-up at the College World Series. Adams was named to the CWS All-Tournament Team, as he hit .375.
As a junior, Adams upped his season average to .326 and was named first team All-Missouri Valley Conference. After summer ball with the Wichita Broncos, Adams hit .398 as a senior at WSU, with an on base percentage of .462 and slugged 16 home runs. In addition to being All-Valley, Collegiate Baseball named him first team All-American.
Adams was awarded WSU’s Most Valuable Player as a junior and senior. In his four seasons, he hit .327 and was drafted by the Houston Astros in the ninth round of the 1995 MLB Draft. He played four years in the Astros organization.
Adams is a member of the Shocker Hall of Fame. He and his family make their home in Wichita.
