Ferrell “Andy” Anderson

Ferrell Anderson, known as Andy, was born in 1918 in Maple City, an unincorporated community in Cowley County. At the University of Kansas, he played halfback and tackle and was All-Big Six in 1938.
He signed with the Yankees as a catcher in 1939 and was purchased by Brookly in 1942, the same year he was drafted into the U.S. Army.
Anderson served until 1945 and returned to the Dodgers’ organization. He was called up in 1946 and played in 79 games before returning to the minors. He caught a no-hitter pitched by Ed Head on April 23.
From 1951-1953, Anderson played for three organizations – the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Browns and St. Louis Cardinals. He played in 18 games for the Cardinals in 1953.
Anderson died in Joplin, Missouri in 1978 at the age of 60.
