As an outfielder, Kenny Bennett led Wichita West High School to state baseball championships in 1967 and 1969. As a quarterback, he led the Pioneers to the state football title in 1968.
Following his senior season, Bennett was signed into professional baseball by famed New York Yankee scout Tom Greenwade. Bennett played six years in the Yankee system, earning International League Rookie of the Year honors in 1973 at Syracuse (AAA). He was dealt to the Chicago White Sox in 1975 and played his last year at Denver.
Bennett also played for El Dorado Coors in 1976-78, helping them to a state title in 1977.
