Dave Bingham is the most successful coach ever at two universities in Kansas.

In 1974, Bingham assumed the head coaching duties at his alma mater, Emporia State. Over the next 14 years, he led the Hornets to a 588-270-2 record. During his tenure, ESU won eight conference championships and made five NAIA World Series appearances, winning the national championship in 1978. Bingham was named national coach of the year in 1976, 1984 and 1986.

In 1988, Bingham became head coach at the University of Kansas and led the Jayhawks to a 249-225 record in eight years. Under Bingham, the Jayhawks made their first two NCAA Regional appearances in program history, culminating with the school’s first College World Series appearance in 1993. That team finished with a 45-18 record, setting a school record for wins and earning a top-10 ranking. For his efforts, he was named Big Eight and ABCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year.

Bingham left KU to run his own baseball academy for ten years. From 2005 to 2011, he was as an assistant at the University of Nebraska, serving as the Huskers’ defensive coach, scouting and recruiting coordinator. 

Bingham has also coached at the national and international levels. He served as an assistant on the silver medal-winning 1984 U.S. Olympic team and the 1988 squad which won gold. Overall, Bingham has coached eight international squads that have won three gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal.
