For 40+ years, Bob Carlile was connected with the Liberal BeeJays, Kansas’s most successful amateur summer league team.

Carlile was born in Liberal in 1937.  He and his brother were the driving force behind the BeeJays.  While Bob served as as general manager for 20+ years, the BeeJays won four NBC World Series championships and were runners-up six times.  They won 13 state and 20 Jayhawk league crowns and sent 165 players to the major leagues.  

Carlile was responsible for bringing Mike Hargrove to manage the BeeJays, less than a year removed from managing the Seattle Mariners.

He owned J&R Sand Company for more than 50 years.  Carlile was civic minded and served on the Liberal Board of Education and City Commission at various times.  

Carlile died in 2012 in Liberal.  He was 74 years of age.
