P.J. Forbes
Hall of Fame Class of 2013

A three-sport standout at Pittsburg’s Colgan High School, P.J. Forbes was a two-time All-Missouri Valley Conference second baseman at Wichita State. During the Shockers College World Series Championship season in 1989, Forbes led the NCAA in hits and triples.

Forbes played for two national champions in 1989, winning the National Baseball Congress World Series as a member of the Wichita Broncos. In 1988, Forbes played for the Kountry Time Cubs, who won the silver medal at the World Amateur Baseball Championships in Havana, Cuba. 

Forbes was drafted by the California Angels in the 20th round of the 1990 MLB Draft. He reached the majors in 1998 with Baltimore and also appeared with Philadelphia in 2001. While in the Orioles organization, Forbes became a fan favorite while playing three seasons at Rochester, New York (Class AM). He was inducted into the Rochester Red Wings Hall of Fame in 2006. 

Following his playing career, Forbes began managing in the Phillies’ farm system. He spent 2004 and 2005 in Lakewood, New Jersey (Class A) followed by two seasons in Reading, Pennsylvania (AA). He joined the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 2009, managing in Lynchburg, Virginia; Bradenton, Florida and Altoona, Pennsylvania.
