Larry Foss was born in Castleton, an unincorporated community in Reno County in 1936. He attended high school in Wichita, graduating from West High School and pitched at Wichita State University.
Foss began his professional career in the Pittsburgh organization in 1955. After seven seasons, Foss was called up by the Pirates in late 1961. He started three games, winning his first start against Bob Gibson and the St. Louis Cardinals. It would be his only major league win.
Foss returned to the minors in 1962 and was acquired by the New York Mets late in the season. He appeared in five games in the Mets inaugural season, losing his only start.
In 1964, Foss helped Wichita Service Auto Glass win the NBC World Series.
Foss died in Wichita in 2019 at the age of 83.
