Catcher Clyde Girrens was born in 1930 and grew up in St. Marks, an unincorporated community in Sedgwick County.
As a 15-year-old, Marks played on a St. Marks team that made the 1945 State NBC Tournament. In 1949, he played for the Cessna Bobcats in the NBC World Series.
In 1950 Girrens signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers and played in the organization until 1955, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Korea.
After his military service, Girrens returned to Wichita and made the NBC all-tournament team a record four times playing for the Wichita Weller Indians, Service Auto Glass and Bob Moore Oldsmobile and Wichita Rapid Transit Dreamliners.
With the Weller Indians in 1959, he was named MVP of the NBC World Series, hitting .364 and driving in seven runs, and was on the 1964 champion Drealiners.
