David Haas
Hall of Fame Class of 2014
One of the most successful and durable pitchers in Wichita State baseball history, David Haas went on to a career in the major leagues.
Haas came to WSU from Independence, Missouri in 1985. He burst on to the scene with a 12-1 record, earning him Freshman All-America honors.
After an 8-2 sophomore season, Hass went 15-2 as a junior to again get All-American recognition. As a senior, he went 14-5 to lead the Shockers to the 1988 College World Series. He was named the Missouri Valley Conference’s pitcher of the year.
Haas’s 49 victories rank second on the all-time Shocker career list. He also ranks among the WSU all-time leaders in strikeouts, appearances, complete games, innings pitched and winning percentage.
Drafted in the 15th round by Detroit, Haas won his Tigers debut in 1992. In that game, Haas outdueled David Wells to beat Toronto, which would go on to win the World Series with a lineup that included future Hall of Fame players Roberto Alomar and Dave Winfield.
Haas compiled a 7-5 record with the Tigers, pitching in parts of three seasons.
