“Ducky” Hale was born in Dexter, in 1894. A catcher, he broke into the major leagues with the St. Louis Browns at the age of 20 in 1914. 

Hale played four seasons with the Browns – 1914, 1916, 1917 and 1918. He appeared in 60 games and batted .175. 

Hale died in Wichita in 1945 at the age of 51. He is buried in Dexter.
