Koyie Hill
Hall of Fame Class of 2018

As a third baseman at Wichita State, Koyie Hill hit .356 in three seasons for Shocker teams that averaged 53 wins per season.  After his sophomore season, he played for Team USA.  In his final season at WSU, Hill hit .391 and was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2000 MLB draft.

The Dodgers immediately converted Hill to catcher.  Just three seasons later, he made his major league debut and collected his first big league hit.  Midway through the following season, Hill and two prospects were traded to Arizona for veterans Steve Finley and Brent Mayne.

After two seasons with the Diamondbacks, Hill signed as a free agent with the Chicago Cubs in 2007.  After his first season with the Cubs, Hill severed his thumb and cut the fingers of his right hand in a table saw incident.  After months of therapy, he rejoined the Cubs the next season and played four more years in Chicago as a part-time starter.

Hill finished his career with appearances with Miami in 2013 and Philadelphia in 2014.  He came out of retirement two years later to play for the Kansas Stars in the National Baseball Congress World Series.

Originally from Lawton, Oklahoma, Hill continued to live in Wichita following his baseball career.
