Dee Hubbard
Hall of Fame Class of 1994
Some credit the Wichita entrepreneur Dee Hubbard with saving the National Baseball Congress after the death of founder Hap Dumont.
Hubbard formed the Wichita Service Auto Glass baseball team in 1962 and in 1964 the team won the NBC national title. He ran the team until 1974.
When Dumont died in 1971 Hubbard bought the NBC from his estate and served as chairman of the board until 1974.
In 1981 WSU dedicated Hubbard Hall in honor of his gifts to the Center for Entrepreneurship. In 1988, he bought Ruidoso Downs horse racing track in New Mexico. From 1990-99, Hubbard owned Hollywood Park, the famed horse racing track.
Hubbard, who was born in Smith Center, died in 2020 at the age of 84.
