Leonard Kelley, from Parsons, was a great all-around athlete. He led Parsons Junior College to the 1960 NJCAA basketball championship and went on to play at Wichita State University.
He signed with the Washington Senators in 1966 but went into the service right after spring training.
Kelley was a regular at the NBC State Tournament and the NBC World Series. He played for the Wichita Rapid Transit Dreamliners, Service Auto Glass, the Cessna Bobcats and for Hutchinson and Liberal. A shortstop and strong hitter, Kelley set a tournament record with 36 total bases in 1971. He was named to three all-tourney teams.
