Les Layton was born in Oklahoma in 1921. He studied at the University of Oklahoma and signed with the New York Giants in 1944.
An outfielder, Layton played with the Giants during the 1948 season. He homered in his first at bat in the majors. Layton appeared in 63 games, hitting .213 with two homers and 12 runs batted in.
In the 1950s, Layton played outfield for Wichita’s Boeing Bombers. The Bombers won NBC World Series championships in 1954 and 1955. Layton was a key member of that team, playing outfield for the Bombers.
Layton died in 2014 at the age of 92.
