Hall of Fame Class of 1983
Right fielder Ernie Logan was a source of power for the legendary Wichita Boeing Bombers teams of the mid-1950s. The Bombers won back-to-back NBC World Series titles in 1954 and 1955. They went on to win the Global World Series in Milwaukee in 1955.
Logan made the NBC’s All-American team three straight years: 1953, 1954 and 1955.
Logan’s NBC success followed a four-year professional career. In 1947 he hit .318 with 25 home runs and 98 runs batted in, splitting the season between Class A Charleston (SC) and Class C Burlington (NC). He reached the Triple-A level in 1949 in the St. Louis Cardinals organization.
Logan was from Oklahoma but remained in Wichita after his playing days and earned a degree in journalism from Wichita State University in 1961.
He died in 2009 at the age of 86.
