Hall of Fame Class of 2012
Paul Roberts began in baseball as a ten-year-old popcorn and peanut salesman at Island Park in Wichita in 1930.
When Lawrence-Dumont Stadium opened in 1935, Roberts worked the inaugural National Baseball Congress World Series…and continued until 2008. During that time, he served as a chairback vendor, groundskeeper, concession stand worker and sky box attendee.
Roberts is best remembered, however, for tearing tickets for fans as they entered the front gate. After the 2008 season, Paul married another longtime Lawrence-Dumont Stadium ticket taker, Betty Abbott.
Roberts died at age 95 in 2015.
