Hall of Fame Class of 2009
In 1978, Paul Sanagorski started the intercollegiate baseball program at Kansas Newman College (now Newman University).
For the next 15 years, Sanagorski was a one-man show leading the baseball program. He also was an instructor, assistant basketball coach, head women’s golf coach and intramural director at various times.
Sanagorski quickly built a successful program. By 1983, the Jets reached the NAIA World Series. Overall, he led Newman to 766 wins in 23 seasons, a record that ranks him 11th among all NAIA baseball coaches.
In 2000, Sanagorski left Newman to become a hitting instructor in the Florida Marlins organization. He spent seven years in their minor league system, including 2003 when the Marlins won the World Series. After that, he became a hitting coach in the Washington Nationals’ organization.
