Born in the western Kansas community of Catharine, Ron Schueler pitched at Hays High School and Fort Hays State. While at FHSU in 1967, he was drafted and signed by Atlanta.
Schueler made his debut with the Braves in 1972 went on to win 40 games over an eight-year career that included stops in Philadelphia, Minnesota and with the Chicago White Sox.
During the 1979 season, Schueler retired from the White Sox and served as their pitching coach. He remained in the role for two seasons and moved to Pittsburgh and then Oakland as pitching coach. With the Athletics, he subsequently moved into the front office as assistant general manager for four years, including their 1989 championship season.
In 1991, Schueler became Vice President/General Manager of the White Sox. During his tenure, the White Sox won division titles in 1993 and 2000 and had the fourth best record in baseball. They finished first or second in the division in eight of his ten years as GM.
In 1994, Schueler signed Michael Jordan to a minor league contract.
Following the 2000 season, Schueler stepped down to serve as an advisor. He held advisory or scouting roles for five other organizations until retiring in 2018.
