Ira Smith played professional baseball for 16 years, mostly in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He also managed professional teams in Elmira, N. Y., Houston, Sacramento and Birmingham, Ala.
After retiring from professional baseball, he moved to Wichita and worked at Boeing. He also managed and pitched in NBC World Series as a member of Boeing Bombers teams.
Smith died in Wichita in 1961 at the age of 56.
