Hall of Fame Class of 2011
Lee Stevens was drafted out of Lawrence High School by the California Angels in the first round of the 1986 amateur draft (#22 overall). Four years later, he debuted with the Angels.
After three seasons with the Angels, Stevens went to Japan in search of more playing time. He played two seasons with the Osaka Kintetsu Buffaloes, hitting 20 home runs in 1994 and 23 in 1995 before returning to play in the United States.
He would hit 20 or more home runs for five consecutive major league seasons, starting with Texas in 1997 and ending in 2001 with Montreal. Altogether, Stevens hit 144 home runs and drove in 531 home runs over ten MLB seasons.
At Lawrence High School, the trees beyond the outfield fence at Ice Field are known as “Lee’s Trees.”
