George Trombold was born in Chanute in 1909 and went to school in Iola.  He went to the University of Kansas and played first base, graduating in 1932.  He also played with the Lawrence Green Brothers semi-pro team and managed the Lawrence Ban Johnson team.

During the 1930s, Trombold was a high school teacher and coach.  He hit .402 for Wichita Civic, the Kansas NBC champs in 1939 and was named to all-tournament team.

In 1940, he joined the Stearman Aircraft/Boeing Airplane Company as personnel director and influence Boeing being a baseball sponsor.  He retired from Boeing in 1974 and was a HR consultant for 20 years.

Trombold and his wife Elizabeth were married 73 years.  He died in 2007 at the age of 98.
