One of the top athletes to ever play at Mulvane High School, Jerry Webster began playing semiprofessional baseball as a teenager for some of Wichita’s top teams – the Joyland Giants, Boeing BoJets and Boeing Bombers.
He graduated from Mulvane High School in 1956 and played baseball and basketball at Oklahoma State University.
Webster signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers and played in their organization from 1959-61. He left professional baseball to continue his education, graduating from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia in 1962. He taught and coached at Conway Springs, Mulvane before moving into administration.
Webster continued to play baseball. He was the second baseman for the the 1962 and 1963 National Baseball Congress World Series champion Rapid Transit Dreamliners and the 1964 champion, Service Auto Glass.
Webster served as principal at Mulvane, Peabody and Neodesha. His final job was superintendent at Neodesha before retiring.
Webster died in January of 2013 at the age of 74. His nephew, Mitch, is in the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame.
