“Weeping Willie” was born in Buffalo in 1898 and broke into the majors at age 26 in 1925. 

He pitched seven years in the majors, six of them with Philadelphia.  In 1926, Willoughby won eight games.  He was 15-14 in 1929.  His final season was 1931, with Pittsburgh.  He won 38 games in his seven-year major league career.

Willoughby returned to Kansas when his playing days were over, living in McPherson where he died in 1973 at the age of 74.  He is buried in the cemetery in Buffalo.
