One of the great players in Kansas State University history, Craig Wilson was the Wildcats’ first consensus All-American.
A four-year starter at second base/shortstop, Wilson received All-Big 8 honors in 1990 and 1991, Wilson was the conference’s player of the year in 1992. In addition to first-team All-America honors from Baseball America, Wilson was selected to the 1992 US Olympic team.
The Olympic team included fellow Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame members Darren Dreifort and Chris Wimmer. The US team finished fourth, losing twice to gold medal winning Cuba.
Wilson ranks among K-State’s top five in six career categories, including second in hits (282), runs scored (181), doubles (58), triples (15) and third in at-bats (809) and RBI (176).
Following his junior season at K-State, Wilson was drafted by San Francisco in the 23rd round of the MLB Amateur draft. He returned to school and was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 13th round following his senior year. He signed with the White Sox, was an Arizona Fall League teammate of Michael Jordan and made his major league debut in 1998 with the White Sox. Wilson spent three seasons in the majors, compiling a .272 average.
